Novice dancers work up a sweat for Strictly by Brackley

Strictly by Brackley took a Latin twist when town celebrities took part in their first training session last week.

Now in its third year, the fundraising dance off will see business owners, community group members and shopkeepers paired with students from the Step by Step Dance School.

In previous years ballroom waltzs and American jives have stolen the show, but this year contestants will practice samba and tango routines during the gruelling six weeks of training ahead of two public shows.

Novice dancers were put through a tough, two hour introduction on July 23 by Step by Step founder Andrzej Mialkowski.

Organiser Tizzy Jones said: “The first practice was amazing, everyone came with the right spirit. But the weather was very hot, they came in looking pristine and left looking like they’d been through a washing machine. But they all actually loved it.”

Last year the ‘celebrities’ collected more than £4,000 in sponsorship for the Magdalen College School Chapel repair fund. This year the nominated cause is Livability which has its East Midlands office on the Buckingham Road Industrial Estate and provides support services for disabled people.

Mrs Jones added: “Livability is an integral part of the town and thanks to them their clients are able to be part of the community.”

Tickets cost £15 and are already on sale for the two public shows on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, from Mrs Jones on 07986 837119.
