A woman who works at the Greatmoor Waste Management Centre will be taking over the Instagram account of home retail giant Dunelm to showcase what it is like to work as a woman in waste management.

Gemma Green, who is a waste awareness and education manager for FCC Waste Management at the centre near Calvert, will be posting 'Day in the Life' content on Dunelm's Instagram account tomorrow, Thursday, April 8, as part of the company's new campaign, Great British Bin Week.

This aims to champion and thank waste collectors, as the unsung heroes of lockdown, and also encourage people to think more responsibly about how they dispose of their waste.

Dunelm has claimed this week as the first ever Great British Bin Week, as part of its ‘Home. We Get It’ campaign.

The week champions the hardworking collection and household waste recycling centre crews, with people urged to share messages of appreciation and recycling tips from influencers.

Working with waste management company FCC Environment, Dunelm will showcase the daily routine of Gemma and her colleague, Tracy, in a special social media takeover to help raise awareness of the important role household waste recycling teams and collection crews play in society.

Throughout Great British Bin Week, Dunelm will be encouraging customers to make small changes to their everyday bin habits and think more sustainably to help make a big difference to the planet. It will also be sharing how to sort household waste properly and recycle as much as possible, to reduce the amount of rubbish that ends up in landfill.

The week also aims to inspire people to have fun sharing their weekly bin walk style - be it an opportunity to show off a favourite outfit, have a socially distanced chat with a neighbour or that last-minute dash in pyjamas to get the bins to the kerb.

And there will be a chance to win £500 to spend in store at Dunelm in the Bin Day Runway competition. To enter, participants just need to strut their stuff while taking out the bins during Great British Bin Week and tag Dunelm in their images or videos on social media.
