Two residents of Buckingham's Stowe Close celebrated big birthdays totalling 170 years last weekend.

David Smith was 80 on Saturday, April 17, and Olive Smith (no relation) was 90 on Sunday, April 18.

With two significant milestones in a close consisting of only 11 households, neighbours decided the occasions deserved a Covid-safe celebration.

Olive has lived in the close since 1964 and her son, Gary, was able to come over to join in with the celebrations, which included a small presentation and cake cutting.

David has lived here since 1979 and two of his children and their families were able to join in the socially distanced gathering, which took place in lovely sunshine on the green.

Local resident Susan Mileham made a chocolate cake of two halves - one end with a Welsh flag in recognition of Olive’s heritage and the other with an English flag for David.
