Those wanting to try sailing for the first time had the chance to get out onto the water as Great Moor Sailing Club opened its doors to the public on Saturday.
The open day was chance for prospective members to see for themselves the kind of things that goes on at the club, based at Grebe Lake in Calvert, with activities including taster boat rides in sailing dinghies, open canoes and kayaks.
The club is keen to attract as many people as they can in hope of expanding and there was also something for all the family as a competition and other activities were also held on the day, such as face painting and a treasure hunt.
Proceeds from the boat rides were donated to Medical Detection Dogs, a charity based in Great Horwood which works to train specialist dogs to detect the odour of human disease.
The club’s normal sailing times are every Sunday throughout the year as well as Wednesday and Friday evenings during the summer months.
