Plans for a major revamp of the Swan Pool and Leisure Centre are due to be discussed by Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) cabinet on Tuesday, December 17.

Cabinet members are asked to agree a scheme for progressing the improvement project, subject to receiving a £500,000 Sport England Improvement Grant, and to recommend funding from AVDC’s capital programme.

The proposed scheme includes a remodelled entrance area with a two-storey climbing wall, which would be run by a specialist operator.

There are also plans for an extended fitness suite, a new spinning studio, an improved cafeteria and extending and completely refitting the wet and dry changing areas.

The sums involved are confidential but the total projected cost is believed to be in the region of £4.5 million.

AVDC district councillor for Buckingham South, Howard Mordue, has made the Swan Pool revamp a priority since taking over as cabinet member for leisure this year.

Mr Mordue said: “It’s a well used pool and numbers are growing. By making better use of cpace we’re bringing new facilities to the pool.

“I have every hope the Sport England bid will be successful because of the need for investment in sports facilities in this area.”

And he added: “The expenditure on the Swan Pool per head of the catchment area is greater than for Aqua Vale in Aylesbury.”
