A TV producer who has worked on Time Team and Changing Rooms and written a book on serial killer Harold Shipman is to become a familiar sight to church congregations in south Northants.
Carole Peters will be the new Rector of the Astwell Benefice covering Helmdon, Stuchbury, Radstone, Syresham, Whitfield, Lois Weedon, Plumpton and Wappenham.
Ordained four years ago and licensed by the Bishop of Peterborough last week, she describes herself as “Bridget Jones meets the Vicar of Dibley”.
A graduate in archaeology, she began her career in newspapers and radio, while her television documentaries include series on espionage, science fiction and serial killers, including the notorious Shipman.
She said: “God spent many years, whispering in my ear, then tapping me on the shoulder, then as that wasn’t getting the desired effect, he put people and situations in my way as ‘signs’ he was calling me to ministry. Finally, I think he got fed up that the gently, gently approach was having no effect so he simply made it impossible for me to say no!”
