Unsung heroes of a local rugby club have been honoured with awards.
President of the RFU, Jonathan Dance, joined more than 80 past players and friends at the vice-president’s luncheon at Buckingham Rugby Club.
After the lunch, Mr Dance presented the RFU Value the Volunteer Award to five club members.
The Value the Volunteer Award is designed to recognise the unsung heroes that give so much free time to ensure their club continues to function.
Those recognised this year were Cindy Turvey, Julie Nichols, Jenny Tofield, Rob Stevens and John Simmonds.
All received certificates from Mr Dance, who said: “Amateur rugby clubs like Buckingham rely heavily on the continued support of volunteers like those recognised today.
“It would be impossible to operate without them.”
