Tweeting Maids Moreton newlyweds Chris and Jo Watts can finally settle down to married life after overcoming obstacles on the way to their wedding at Gretna Green last Friday.

The chaos started on Tuesday last week when the bride-to-be broke her elbow after slipping on ice, before extreme weather conditions on Wednesday led to train journeys being cancelled across the UK.

But when the couple, their best man and maid of honour, Steve and Jane Carr arrived at Milton Keynes Station, trains were running and they were upgraded to first class.

The newlyweds endured no further hitches, and were married on Valentines Day. The wedding party returned to Buckingham on Saturday, heading straight to the old town hall for their reception in an Only Fools and Horses replica three-wheeled van.

Mr Watts said: “I knew my friend Paul Cakebread owned the van and I asked him if he would do it – I didn’t expect him to be dressed as Batman!

“One of the reasons we chose Villiers was because my daughter works there. We were so well looked after, especially by Jean Rush. I know you pay for these things but you don’t necessarily expect people to go that extra mile.

“From thinking it wasn’t going to happen to how smoothly it all ran in the end is incredible.”

The couple are honeymooning in Egypt after Mrs Watts was told her elbow was healing well.
