Now a firm favourite annual event, the 2014 Brackley Soapbox Derby will take place on Sunday, June 8.

From 2pm, soapboxes will run on the main road, down the hill to the finish line at the Market Square car park.

As well as the normal juniors under 15 and adults 15 and over categories, this year a new Premier Class is being introduced, which the organisers hope will attract entries from local high-tech companies.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded for the fastest three in each class and a separate trophy will be presented to the best turned-out cart.

Entries have already been received from various parts of the country and soapbox builders are urged to get their entries in as soon as possible.

This year’s soapbox derby will once again be supporting Katharine House Hospice.

Snacks, drinks and other attractions will also be available in the Market Square.

On display will be a Mercedes Petronas Formula 1 Grand Prix car together with various other interesting racing machines.

Mercedes F1 apprentices will also be competing in the newly introduced Premier Class in a purpose-built soapbox.
