The leader of South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) has paid tribute to a long service former councillor who passed away last week.

John Kilmister served as a Conservative member for the Middleton Cheney ward of SNC from 2003 until last May.

Mr Kilmister served on a range of committees including scrutiny, development control, licensing and more recently the grants panel.

In paying tribute to Mr Kilmister, the leader of SNC, Cllr Ian McCord, said: “John was a diligent and hard-working councillor who represented both the interests of the Middleton Cheney ward and its residents vigorously.

He added: “You always knew where you stood with John, he said it as he saw it and did not pander to fads or fashionable ideas. He was a very principled Conservative gentleman and will be missed by us all. My thoughts are with is family at this difficult time.”

Mr Kilmister’s funeral takes place at 1:30pm on Friday February 12 at St Mary the Virgin Church, Queens Street, Culworth, Northamptonshire, OX17 2AT.

The family have requested no flowers but donations can be made direct to Culworth School, Culworth Church and Help the Heroes registered charity if desired.
