The Bell Hotel, in Winslow, plays host to the latest fundraiser from Towcester Tea Rooms next month – and this time the fun is set to last overnight.

Organisers Sharon and Tony McMurray are putting on A Weekend With The Stars on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4.

Following a number of years of successful fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society and local charities, this time Mr and Mrs McMurray have set their sights even higher to raise the maximum amount of funds for their chosen charity.

Guests will have exclusive use of the hotel for A Weekend With The Stars, which includes a weekend package of tribute acts, meals and accommodation.

The wide variety of tribute acts ranges from Karen Carpenter to Tina Turner.

And all profits are going to the Alzheimer’s Society.

The weekend begins with lunch at 1pm on Saturday, May 3, followed by Let’s Hear It For The Girls – with tributes to Barbara Streisand, Amy Winehouse and Shirley Bassey.

After dinner, the evening kicks off with Elvis – The Early Years, Tina Turner and the Blues Brothers.

The interval is followed with Elvis – The Vegas Years, after which guests can make their way to their hotel rooms for the night.

Sunday begins with breakfast from 8am to 10am, and the weekend concludes after breakfast with tributes to Karen Carpenter and Freddie Mercury.

Mrs McMurray said she ‘got talked into’ organising the weekend event, following the success of an Elvis tribute evening and sit-down dinner last year at Whittlebury Hall, which raised nearly £4,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

She told the Advertiser: “I have teamed up with AP Productions to put on a fantastic weekend of live music.

“We have exclusive use of the hotel and the price of £125 includes accommodation, all meals over the two days and eight different music acts”

“We have seen all of the acts and they are all very impressive.

“The event is open to the public and would be an ideal birthday present or special gift for fans of good music and great company.”

At the time of going to press, a few rooms were still available for the event.

> Towcester Tea Rooms held its 10th annual charity tea dance last Sunday.

Towcester Town Hall was filled with the sound of music, laughter and moving feet as people enjoyed more than two hours of dancing, a raffle and a cream tea.

Mrs McMurray said: “I continue to be so thankful to our friends and people of Towcester who keep coming back to support our annual Charity Tea Dance.

“This year we raised £460 from ticket sales and a raffle on the day.”
