Tennis player’s US scholarship

A talented young tennis player from Turweston is the latest recipient to benefit from The Markham Trust.

The trust, set up in 2014 in memory of farmer and sportsman Barry Markham, will be helping Lucy Horbatowski to fund a tennis scholarship in Missouri, USA.

Lucy, 17, a member of Brackley Tennis club who has been playing tennis since aged 4, is consistently ranked in the top 50 players nationally.

She has been awarded a grant to play tennis and study occupational therapy and sports science at Maryville University, St Louis, over the next four years.

The £2,000 grant made by the trust will help towards her travelling and living expenses.

Lucy’s immediate aim is to compete successfully on the American college circuit for her chosen university and to progress to the US Challenge tour.

The charity have to date made donations totalling £8,000 to clubs, teams and individuals to help fund specific projects.

The charity has made donations totalling £4,705 to the following organisations: Buckingham Tennis club for a ball machine and junior tennis equipment

Padbury Village Football Club for mobile floodlights

The Wooden Spoon - Bicester section general donation

Buckingham Golf Club for a junior clubs and equipment

Buckingham Athletic Football Club for football kit and training equipment

Great Horwood Cricket club for ground improvements

Winslow Dons Disability Football Club for mobile floodlights
