Tony Visconti: 'Aylesbury looms large in David Bowie's legend'

Grammy award winning music producer Tony Visconti is coming to Aylesbury - to play The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in the place where it was born.

Visconti, who plays bass guitar in supergroup Holy Holy, picked up a Grammy earlier this year for his work with David Bowie on Blackstar.

He has been touring with the Bowie-approved project since 2013 alongside original Spiders drummer Woody Woodmansey and a host of stars including Glen Gregory of Heaven 17.

And Tony said how excited he is to perform in Aylesbury, which later this year will
become the first place in the world to have a David
Bowie statue tribute, in recognition of his visits to town to debut his Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory albums.

Speaking to The Bucks Herald about the statue,
Tony said: “I think Aylesbury is very important in David’s career, I’ve only been there once before years ago, I can’t remember which band I saw, but I wasn’t at that iconic show.

“So I think this is a wonderful event, and that’s it’s so great that people look back and really appreciate what has gone on in those years.

“Those were very formative years for rock, pop and
especially David Bowie. Aylesbury looms large in his legend!”

And Tony spoke about his long friendship with Bowie, which saw him produce 13 albums with the star who died in January last year, days after the release of their last project Blackstar.

He said: “What I miss most is our friendship, both of us had a unique perspective on music and art and cinema and we started this conversation in 1967, and every time I met up with him it would be a
continuation of where we left off. A continuous stream of being friends for over 40 years - I just miss him as a friend.”

Holy Holy comes to Aylesbury on April 3 in a Waterside Theatre event organised by Aylesbury Friars Club.
