Staff were left shaken but uninjured following a burglary and a robbery at Towcester Centre for Leisure in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, August 29.
Emergency key holders for the centre were first called at 12.40am when burglar alarms were activated and they found cash had been stolen.
Then at 4.15am three men entered the centre and threatened two members of staff who were still there following the earlier incident.
Those men stolen a further quantity of cash.
By noon yesterday a steady stream of centre users were being turned away as police forensic teams gathered evidence. Centre operator South Northants Leisure Trust (SNLT) confirmed the centre was closed until further notice, but at the time of going to press it was expected to reopen today, Friday.
In a statement SNLT chairman Brian Taylor said: “Our employees are obviously very shaken by what has happened and we urge any members of the public who may have seen anything suspicious to contact the police. The centre was closed to enable the police to conduct their enquiries and allow us to clean-up and repair damage. ”
Northants police want to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the two incidents.
Witnesses, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
