Friends and colleagues have paid tribute to a mum-of-two and university assistant who died after a short battle with cancer.

Yolande Hinson - husband to Shane, mum to Ryan and John and a sister to Heather, Denise and Oona - died at Florence Nightingale Hospice in Buckingham, aged 49.

She will be greatly missed both personally and professionally”

Martin Ricketts

Yolande, who lived in Dove Close, joined the University of Buckingham in 2012 and worked as an assistant to dean of economics, Martin Ricketts.

Mr Ricketts said everyone at the university was ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news.

He said: “Yolande made an enormous contribution to the work of the school of humanities.

“Her good humour and willingness to sort out problems made her - within a short space of time - a linchpin of the department and a reassuring presence for both staff and students.

“She ran a happy and cooperative team and she will be greatly missed both personally and professionally by her colleagues and by the students.”

The university has set up a memorial fund to put a bench outside of Yolande’s office window, overlooking the river.

Posting a message on an obituary website, university colleague Pat Smith said: “I will miss Yolande’s wonderful smile.”

An old school friend said ‘I will forever see your bright smile’ while many others described her as a ‘beautiful person’.

A funeral service is being held at St Bernadine’s Catholic Church in Buckingham tomorrow at 3.30pm. All flowers welcome.
