The famous steam engine returned to the mainline last week and passed through nearby Biggleswade and Sandy in Bedfordshire (see our video from the Scotsman’s pass through Sandy).

Demand for tickets to ride aboard it has been extremely high.

But people in MK still have a chance of travelling on the locomotive when it stops in the city on Wednesday June 15 to take locals on a fabulous nine-day steam tour of Ireland.

The Emerald Isle Explorer is set to be hauled by Flying Scotsman for the first leg of its journey, to Holyhead.

The Emerald Isle Explorer will depart from Milton Keynes at 11:15am, hauled by Flying Scotsman and head up towards Chester and onwards for the beautiful run along the North Wales coast, where passengers will spend the night.

On day two, passengers will bid farewell to the famous locomotive and board a ferry from Holyhead to begin a week-long steam tour of Ireland.  Highlights of the trip include travelling along the picturesque coastline to Wexford; a visit to the world-famous Waterford Crystal factory; a day in Cork and an optional trip to Belfast, taking in the impressive Giants Causeway.

Marcus Robertson, chairman of Steam Dreams, which is organising 11 day trips and three holidays by steam with Flying Scotsman, said it is ‘a very special opportunity to travel with this famous locomotive’.
