Steeple Claydon School and Nursery have been awarded the Bucks & MK Primary School of the Year Award for PE at the annual Bucks and MK Sport Awards.

The school received its award at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury last Friday for the efforts it has made to improve PE provision, participation and enjoyment across the school this year.

Headteacher Sara Boyce said: “We are so proud of the giant strides in PE our school has made within the last three years.

“We offer badminton and cross country clubs throughout the week and many of our older students have run sports clubs for the younger children at lunch and break times.

“PE within the curriculum is varied and interesting and this year has included dance, gymnastics and learning the Haka as well as football, tag-rugby, tennis and the traditional invasion games.”

In addition to activities within the school day, a variety of sporting after-school clubs have been run throughout the year.

Steeple Claydon School has taken part in the newly established annual inter-school cheerleading competition, run by Aylesbury Cheerleading Academy.

In an effort to encourage both children and parents to get fit, it also hosted a 5K fun run for both the school and local community, with training sessions available for all taking part in the lead-up to the event.

Steeple Claydon School and Nursery also promote a healthy lifestyle through schemes such as Walk to School and Bike to School weeks, which children and families actively take up.
