A campaign to encourage people to get involved in the community is aiming to double the number of volunteer readers in Northants schools over the next five years.
This week Northants County Council launched the next phase of its campaign.
The current focus of ‘Get Involved’ is on supporting schools and reading.
Reading helpers will be trained by the Northampton branch of the Beanstalk charity, which currently has 127 helpers, supporting 381 children with one-to-one reading skills sessions.
The council is also hunting for new school governors whose primary role is to help headteachers improve educational standards.
