Twelve teams of over-50s took part in Brackley Town Football Club’s first Walking Football tournament last month.
Sides came from as far afield as Aylesbury, Kettering, Rushden, Milton Keynes, South Reading and Netherton to compete against teams from Brackley, Cherwell, Towcester and Northampton.More than 80 players took part, most of them in their mid-60s.
Four groups of three competed in the morning with the group winners and runners-up entering the Trophy knockout in the afternoon, and the bottom-placed side in each group competing in a Silver Plate knockout. The four semi-finalists were Cherwell, Kettering, Brackley Saints and Netherton.
In the Trophy Final, Kettering ran out worthy winners, beating Cherwell 3-0. In the Silver Plate Final, Brackley Sinners went down to South Reading by 3 goals to 2.
