A new website has been launched for residents and visitors to Buckingham.

The website has been updated to reflect the aspirations of the recently launched Destination Buckingham group.

On it, visitors can learn about the history of the town and find out what there is to see and do, where to stay and where to eat and drink

Funded by Aylesbury Vale District Council, Destination Buckingham comprises members of Buckingham Town Council, Shop Buckingham – the new name for the Buckingham traders’ association – and representatives from the business and wider communities.

As well as supporting ventures to attract people to the town, Destination Buckingham is carrying out ‘visitor improvements’ recommended from studies it commissioned from the Association of Market Towns.

As well as the updated website, these include the visitor maps already installed in Meadow Walk and at the bus stand.

The group was actively involved in the town’s first Food Fair in February, and this year’s Spring Fair, and supported the traders’ Independence Week in July.

It is planning to install a further map at the Verney Close entrance to the Cornwall’s Meadow car park, and is looking into holding a Medieval Fair, another Christmas Shopping Spectacular, and a Cycling Criterium next summer.

Destination Buckingham chairman Mike Smith said: “Buckingham has a lot to offer but its continued vitality depends on support by locals and visitors alike. You can see and do an awful lot in the three hours parking you get for 50p, and we aim to make it a destination of choice.”
