A 12-year-old boy who injured his back during a rugby match near Towcester was airlifted to hospital over the weekend.

During the morning of Sunday, September 16, The Warks and Northants Air Ambulance (WNAA) was called to match

due to the rural location and the nature of the injury.

In a statement the WNAA said: “As the casualty was suffering from pain to his back it was necessary to take him to a spinal injury unit as a precaution, rather than to the local general hospital, and an air ambulance was the quickest way to do this.”

The air ambulance crew administered pain relief to the casualty and immobilised him to prevent further injury and movement. He was then airlifted to the spinal injury unit at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment.
