On behalf of everyone in Brackley, I would just like to thank all of the organisations, schools and clubs who took part in the various celebrations over the Jubilee weekend.
I would also like to thank the people of Brackley for supporting these events, despite the shocking weather which we had to endure at various times.
I thought the attendance at the Queen II tribute concert was outstanding. Particularly those people who stuck it out to the bitter end and were also able to watch the firework display. A real example of the true British spirit shone through, with a ‘do we care that it’s raining, NO – let the show go on.’
It was a shame the soap box derby had to be cancelled, due again to the weather and the fact that the road surface was far too wet and the cardboard boxes at the end of the race track would have got far too soggy and therefore would not have completely slowed down the cars at the finish.
I understand that the soap box team are trying to reschedule the event later in the year.
I would also like to thank all of the hard work put in by the QDJ event team to ensure that Brackley had a good selection of events over the whole weekend which catered for all age groups.
Well done Brackley!
Chris Cartmell, Brackley town mayor
