Young carers and volunteers from Buckingham and Winslow Young Carers (YC2) have had the honour of attending a royal birthday party.

YC2 received invitations to the Royal Windsor Horse Show after Waitrose, which is one of the sponsors of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday celebrations, asked each branch to nominate a local group or charity to be invited to one of the parties being held last week.

Waitrose Buckingham nominated YC2 and was successful in being awarded the maximum number of 10 tickets.

Last Thursday, club leader Margo Parfitt and volunteers Jacqui North, David Jackson and Gerry Bluck travelled to Windsor Castle with six young carers, all of whom have completed their Young Leaders award.

Jordan McConnell, Callum Tunks, Edan Farr, Hannah Walker, Ellie Rose Walker and Chad Newton all attend Buckingham School or Silverstone Academy and have been members of YC2 for several years.

Arriving in time for the Royal Windsor Horse Show, the group then had plenty of time to walk round the park taking in the 200-plus stands, before going on to a spectacular ticket-only evening show involving 900 horses and 1,500 people from all over the world including Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Margo said: “It was impossible not to be moved by the magnificence of the horses and the expertise of the military. Edan said it all at the end: ‘Out of this world’.”
