Buckingham Youth Club has been awarded £10,000 a year for three years, securing the club’s future for at least a further two years.

The youth club relies on grants from Buckingham County Council, Buckingham Town Council and two other sources.

The extra funding, which is from the Aylesbury Vale Community Chest from March next year, will help the club meet running costs.

Chairman of the youth club management committee John Barnett said: “We would like to express our gratitude to Aylesbury Vale Community Chest, as we have around 100 young people using our facilities that would otherwise likely be on the street to meet their friends instead of using the club, so this has come along at the right time for us.

“This funding is really important. We’ve been keeping our fingers and toes crossed because it costs £25,000 to provide the services that we do for the youth clubs that we run, and even though we’ve raised £10,000 on average in the last two years, we still need all of the support we currently receive.”

The youth club currently runs three clubs a week, with another club hosted every fortnight.

It is a charity and a limited company, with three trustees, including Mr Barnett.

There are six employees and five volunteers that support the club in their free time.

Youth worker Jim Whatmore is happy to speak to anyone interested in hiring the building.
