FOOTBALL: Buckingham Athletic crashed out of the Buckingham Senior Charity Cup on Wednesday, beaten 4-1 at Daventry United in the second leg tie.

Buckingham, who held a 2-1 lead from the first leg, put up a brave show but Daventry proved too good on the night, Hooper netting Athletic’s only goal.

With Athletic’s first team game called off due to a frozen pitch last Saturday it was the reserve team who took the honours at Old Bradwell Reserves winning 2-1. Athletic led 1-0 at the interval through a Bradwell own goal.

Bradwell levelled the game midway through the second half and the game looked to be heading for a draw until six minutes into injury time when the home keeper was adjudged to have fouled Brooks in the area. A penalty was awarded and up stepped Craig Howkins to coolly send the keeper the wrong way to seal the points for the visitors.
