Brackley-based Mercedes underlined their dominance over the rest of the F1 field with an impressive display in Friday practise at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

As expected, Mercedes set the pace with almost a second separating them from Ferrari and Williams.

Nico Rosberg led the way from British team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.1 seconds, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel third quickest.

For the Silverstone-based Force India team, Nico Hulkenberg was 10th, two places ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez, while Carlos Sainz Jr and 17-year-old Max Verstappen were seventh and 14th respectively in their Bicester-based Toro Rosso cars.

Qualifying takes place at 6am tomorrow, Saturday, with the race to start at 5am on Sunday morning.
