Bicester beat Dinton despite Gough efforts

Bicester & North Oxford 1st XI boosted their survival hopes with a comprehensive six-wicket victory against a Dinton side that included former England bowler Darren Gough.

The home side won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that seemed to backfire when Ryan Moore took two quick wickets to restrict Dinton to 14-2.

A third-wicket partnership of 54 between Faisal Ali (47) and N Roberts (25) steadied the ship but Richard Simpson (4-35) ran through the middle and lower order to reduce the hosts to a below-par 188 despite some late hitting from Holland (25) and Matthew Furness (26).

In reply, Darren Gough opened the bowling and dismissed the dangerous Simpson for just 14, but Daniel Murphy led the run chase with an excellent 73 before Rob Humphreys smashed an unbeaten, including a straight six off Gough, to see Bicester home.

Bicester, who remain seventh in Cherwell League Division Three, face key match on Saturday against bottom side Bledlow Ridge.
