Blow for Syresham but Hinton edge closer to title

Syresham’s title hopes took a blow at the weekend when they were crushed by local rivals Evenley in the SNCL Premier Division.

Evenley batted first and racked up a formidable 229-8 with Anthony Romaine hitting 102 before Ollie Patterson 6-15 ripped through the Syresham line-up to dismiss the visitors for just 62 and seal a 167-run victory that keeps Evenley in the top four, while Syresham remain second but have lost gound on leaders Byfield.

MK Air kept themselves top of Division One ahead of Bodicote with an 83-run victory over Willoughby. Further down the table, Croughton (99-5) defeated Greens Norton (97) after Rashid Mehmood took 4-16 and Thornborough eased to victory against Byfield A.

Hinton-in-the-Hedges took a step closer to the Division Two title after dismissing Dunchurch & Bilton for just 44 as Michael Adams captured five wickets to seal an emphatic 131-run victory.

In Division Three, Silverstone (133-9) beat Syresham A (89) to keep the pressure on leaders Middleton Cheney A, while Towcestrians were beaten by 68 runs at Bodicote and Middleton Cheney won a tight game by 10 runs over Gawcott & Hillesden.

Finally, in Division Four, Wroxton A remain top of the table thanks to a resounding 151-run win over Dunchurch & Bilton, while Derek Davies (62), Tony Carey (4-17) and Euan Davies (4-22) led Thornborough A to a 122-run victory over Brackley.
