The Murphy Prototypes team starred during last weekend’s 4-Hours of Imola, the second round of the 2015 European Le Mans Series, to score an impressive second-place finish with their Oreca 03R-Nissan, writes James Beckett.
Having failed to finish the season-opening race at Silverstone last month, the Greg Murphy-owned team were keen to place their season firmly back on-track in Italy, and a strong performance saw them do just that.
The team’s LMP2-specification car was driven by Mark Patterson, Michael Lyons and Nathanael Berthon, and the trio worked well together to claim a strong result ahead of the Le Mans 24-Hour race that takes place in just three weeks.
Speaking afterwards, Berthon said: “The car had great pace all weekend. It felt very good in qualifying trim and also with its race set-up. I must thank the whole team. Everyone did a fantastic job.”
Team owner, Greg Murphy, added: “This is a great result for the team, and all our efforts have been rewarded. Everyone working for the team has put in so much effort and our challenge for the European Le Mans Series Championship starts here!”
The race was won by the Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca 05-Nissan of Ludovic Badey, Pierre Thiriet and Tristan Gommendy.
