FOOTBALL: Ryan Brooks fired a hat-trick for Ardley United on Saturday as they sunk Binfield 3-0 to stay top of the Hellenic League Premier Division.
The visitors had a chance to go ahead after eight minutes when Nick Thorne went on a searching run into the Binfield box. A mis-timed tackle saw a penalty awarded to Ardley. Ryan Brooks stepped up but saw his effort well saved by Binfield keeper Dan Wealt.
On the half hour both sides had produced good chances. Just before half time Ardley went ahead 1-0 as a Stuart Bridges corner fell to the feet of Brooks allowing him to stab home his first.
The second half saw Ardley step up a gear and dominate. Troy Bryan on his return from an injury linked up well with Brooks and following a one-two Brooks’ pace saw him shake off the defence and round the keeper to make it 2-0 on 79 minutes. Binfield tried in vain to get back into the game but a resolute Ardley defence kept them at bay.
On 83 minutes, with his back to goal, Bryan received the ball and calmly flicked it on for Brooks to run onto. Finding himself one-on-one with the advancing keeper he lobbed the ball over the top and celebrated his hat-trick and Ardley’s 11th league win in succession.
