BUCKINGHAM Town 1st XI grabbed a thrilling last over win against Oxford 2nds at Bourton Road to maintain fourth spot in the Cherwell League Division One.
Town won the toss and struck in the second over as they put in the visitors to bat.
Nick Hands and Stefan Van Dyk added 46 before Josh Nix removed Van Dyk. Aaron Huish came to the wicket and the third partnership reached 43.
From 90-2 Oxford II struggled against the bowling of Vish Valambhia and Ben Stafford and slipped to 131-8.
Stafford claimed 3-32 in nine overs. Skipper Richard Beer batted well with numbers 10 and 11 though as they added 67 runs to finish the innings on 198-9. Beer made 54 from 48 balls.
Ashley Pearson flew out of the blocks with 22 from 16 balls before falling to Mark Murfett.
Tom Geeson-Brown then trapped Jonny Cater lbw for one and it was 42-2. Both Andrew Fletcher and Simon Myatt scored 22 as they supported opener Steve Brunning in pushing Buckingham towards their target.
When the fourth wicket fell the score was 148 with Brunning looking good having past his 50.
James Tomlinson came in at number 6 and added 40 with Brunning before the returning Geeson-Brown removed Buckingham’s opener for 80. A score of 188-4 quickly became 195-9 and left the hosts staring at missing out on a victory that looked a certainly.
Then with two balls to go skipper Jason Ell hit Geeson-Brown to the mid-wicket boundary to claim a vital 25 points.
