In their annual President’s Day match, Buckingham Town snatched victory from the jaws of defeat following a dramatic finish on Sunday.

Batting first on a difficult wet wicke, Town made a poor start, slumping to 65-6 with only Australian Justin Frew (37) offering any resistance.

Callum Price hit 25 to bolster the Buckingham score before tailenders L Smart (22), Dom Pritchard (21no) and James Gear (19) saw Town set a modest total of 155.

The President’s XI also made a poor start in their reply and, at 60-5, the match was in the balance. Steve Beck was in fine form, however, as he scored a half century and was well-supported by the patient Dolley (27) as victory looked assured at 136-6.

But a dramatic collapse turned the match on its head as the President’s XI were bowled out for 149, just seven runs short of victory.

Slow bowlers Tim Riley, Ben Stafford and James Gear all picked up two wickets apiece, while Chris Coates and Smart took one each. The Man of the Match award went to Steve Beck for his 57.

The club would like to pay special thanks to Graham Fryer and his family for everything, plus thanks to David Ell, Jason Elland and Ian James for umpiring and Andy Harris for his work getting the ground
facilities in good shape after the heavy rain.
