BUCKINGHAM-based Team Racelogic have won the 2012 FunCup Championship outright after they won their class and came second overall at the last FunCup race of the season at Oulton Park with local racer Julian Thomas setting the fastest lap of the race on his penultimate lap.

The team only needed a top two finish in the four-hour race – with 26 cars entered – to win the overall championship.

Team Racelogic got the weekend off to a strong start with a good performance in qualifying as all three drivers posted times in the top four.

Gloucestershire’s Nigel Greensall managed to post the fastest lap in the closing moments, although the team drew the last row of the grid to give Greensall much to do at the start of the race.

But the former pro racing driver fought well and moved up to first before a driver change saw Joachim Ritter slipped back.

Ritter raced well to move the
car up to first in class and third overall when he handed over to Thomas.

The Buckingham racer chased down the leaders and eventually caught them up just as the safety car came out – resulting in another driver change back to Ritter.

The Swiss put Team Racelogic back into the lead ahead of Eco Racing and Dominos Pizza.

Once again the safety car came out, resulting in an epic battle between Ritter and the two diesels that continued for the whole 40-minute sting.

Ritter pitted in second as Greensall rejoined 10 seconds behind and he subsequently
passed over to Thomas in third position.

Yet again the safety car came out, setting up a tense finale and it was Eco Racing who took victory – narrowly beating Thomas and Team Racelogic into second after Thomas had edged past Dominos Pizza.

Despite missing out on victory, second place was more than enough for the Buckingham team to win the overall championship.
