A depleted Buckingham Town IIs side suffered a four-wicket defeat to Horley in Cherwell Cricket League Division Four.
Town were sent into bat first on a poor wicket and they struggled to score during the opening 14 overs as they lost wickets regularly.
However, Russell Thompson hit 57 and Brijesh Valambhia scored 23 to rebuild the innings help Buckingham to a respectable total of 162 all out.
However, Horley’s top five batsmen scored consistently to put them in a commanding position and they soon completed a four-wicket victory despite the best efforts of Valambhia (2-56) and Ben Cater (2-7).
Buckingham IIIs also suffered a defeat as they succumbed to a nine-wicket loss against Abingdon Vale in Division Seven.
Captain Chris Coates continued his early season good form to score 41 while Adam King batted well for 34 and Matt Dipple chipped in with 16 in a total of 129-6.
Dipple made an early breakthrough in Abingdon’s reply to give Town hope but the home side comfortably reached the target with nine wickets to spare.
This weekend, Buckingham IIs play second from bottom Chearsley while the IIIs host second-placed Cublington at Gawcott.
