Champions back in the driving seat

BILLIARDS: Current champions Marston A are back in the driving seat in the Croughton & District league after defeating close rivals Overthorpe A 4-1 in a game previously postponed,

However in this week’s game the Overthorpe B squad turned the form book on its head when defeating the leaders 3-2 in a tight contest. David Wiggins and Philip Walker both won for Marston but in reply Ian Walker and Clive Parker did enough to ease Overthorpe to an odd-point victory,

Despite this defeat Marston still have a one-point advantage at the head of affairs.

Second-placed Overthorpe A got back on track with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Helmdon thanks to wins from Colin Cooper, Gary Boswell and Tony Best in reply Tony Wilson gained some compensation for Helmdon.

Former leaders Adstone dropped to third position despite gaining a narrow success over Brackley Bowls, Malcolm Skuce and Brian Markham both won for the latter but James Pearson and Brian Cleaver won by sufficient margins to steer Adstone to a 3-2 win.

Finally another shock result emerged as Marston B beat Foxhill 4-1, which was made possible through wins from Tim Wheeler, Maurice Skermer and Brian Short. A narrow win from Joe Kingston avoided the clean sweep.
