Thame United 1
Ardley United 3
Ardley moved eights points clear at the top of the Hellenic Premier Division with this clearcut success on Bank Holday Monday.
After a goalless first period, a 10-minute second half spell saw Ardley break the deadlock through goals by Ian Concannon(2) and one from Troy Bryan. Alex Stuart fired a consolation for Thame.
Ardley, beaten earlier this campaign by Thame, avenged one of only two defeats in the league this season.
The first half saw chances for both sides, although Thame enjoyed most of the possession. Ardley had scoring opportunities through Concannon, Bryan and Danny Bone but they were unable to open their accounts.
Thame created two fine chances after 19 minutes. First, Stuart Braun’s rasping drive was tipped around the post by Ardley keeper Kurt Fox and from the resulting corner Aaron Rogers’ header was well saved by Fox.
In the second half Thame again had the early chances but neither Luke Ricketts or Braun were able to find the net, which was to cost them dearly as the visitors grabbed three goals in quick succession.
The first came when Concannon was pushed over in the Thame box as a corner kick was made. He hit home the penalty for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes alter Dean Smith crossed for the onrushing Bryan to blast home past keeper Milan Baresic.
Ardley went further ahead when a corner from the left was dropped by the keeper for Concannon to notch his second.
Stuart headed home for Thame on 73 minutes but the hosts were unable to mount a serious challenge in the last quarter of the game and the score remained 3-1 at the final whistle.
Ardley entertain fifth-placed Shortwood United this Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
>>Third-placed Slimbridge have decided not to apply for promotion to the Zamaretto league this season as management feels the club isn’t ready to make the step up.
