FOOTBALL: Steeple Claydon are celebrating winning the final of the Fred Tew Cup 2-1 against Grendon Rangers.

Played at Winslow United’s ground, it was the team’s first cup win under new boss Lee Hodges.

Claydon took the lead shortly before half time when Paul Gibbs broke free after a long ball was played through. He calmly took it round the keeper and slotted it in to put his side ahead.

In the 60th minute Gibbs was again on the scoresheet as he grabbed a brace.

Hodges brought on the experienced Bart to midfield and 17-year-old Charlie Lamb into the centre of defence.

With 10 minutes left, sloppy defending by Claydon allowed Grendon to grab a late goal. But Hodges was delighted with his team’s display.
