Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi are the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship champions despite finishing down in 11th in Saturday’s 6 Hours of Bahrain, write Colin and James Beckett.
An alternator problem on their number 8 Toyota TS-040 lost the duo time during the penultimate race of the season and prevented them from chasing overall victory, but with the number 7 Toyota of Alexander Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Mike Conway winning, it was enough to confirm Davidson and Buemi as 2014 winners.
Brackley racer Davidson said: “The ultimate aim for the team this year was to win the Le Mans 24-Hour Race, but that was not possible.
“We then really began to chase the world championship and we have been very fortunate this season. Toyota have given Sebastien and I a really competitive car and we would like to finish the season with another win in Brazil next week.
“The Toyota TS-040 Hybrid is a great car and has been the best overall package in the WEC. Already we are thinking about 2015 and winning at Le Mans.”
