Ardley United’s indifferent start to their Hellenic Premier Division campaign continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Thatcham Town.
In an entertaining encounter, Thatcham had the better of the early play but the first chance fell to United’s Luke Ingram, who poked narrowly wide from Jon Gardner’s pass.
Despite further chances as both ends, the contest remained goalless at the half-time interval.
Ardley made a bright start to the second half and they needed just five minutes to break the deadlock when Gardner picked the ball up on the left and ran at the Thatcham defence before unleashing a 20-yard effort that flew past ‘keeper Chris Rackley.
Both sides continued to look threatening but it took until the 75th minute for another goal to arrive when Yashwa Romeo was on hand to convert and earn Thatcham a point after Jack Harding parried Stuart Parker’s effort.
Ardley host Abingdon United this weekend.
In the first round proper of the FA Vase, United have been drawn at home to Chippenham Park or Whitcurch on November 1.
