Following two weeks without a game, Buckingham Athletic were dumped out of the Berks and Bucks Cup after a 2-1 loss to Amersham despite a dominant performance.
The afternoon started badly for Buckingham when skipper Ryan Wiffin failed a fitness test and was unable to start.
Despite that, though, Athletic had a number of chances to take the lead in the first half. First, Bradley Walker failed to control when clean through before Simon King ran the length of the pitch only to be denied by the goalkeeper and top goalscorer Phil Martin failed to find the target with several chances.
At the other end, a cross from the hosts found the target man, who headed home unchallenged.
Buckingham replied immediately through an Adam Bone free kick, but Amersham were in front again before the break after some sloppy defending from the visitors.
Athletic threw everything at the opposition in the second half, but it wasn’t to be as a number of chances were squandered, including when Martin struck the post late on.
Athletic Reserves, meanwhile, recorded a 2-0 win over local rivals Stony Stratford. The goals came from Craig Howkins and Luke Tavener.
