Buckingham Athletic produced a superb display on Saturday as they romped to an emphatic 8-2 victory in an incident-packed and dramatic league encounter with London Lions.

Having conceded eight goals themselves on their last league outing, Athletic were keen to bounce back and they did so in sensational fashion, with Chris Davies putting the home side into a 10th minute lead.

Matt Cruse doubled the advantage two minutes later before Lions pulled a goal back, but George Jackman netted Athletic’s third on 21 minutes, and the action didn’t stop there with Cruse slotting home the game’s fifth goal inside just 25 minutes.

The hosts maintained their 4-1 lead at the break but a minute after the restart London reduced the deficit to two, only for Davies to bag his second from the penalty spot.

Jack Menday hit the Athletic’s sixth in the 58th minute after Davies missed from the spot.

Substitute Phil Martin got in on the act with a 73rd minute strike before Davies rounded off the Buckingham scoring two minutes from time and completed his hat-trick in the process.

Despite the victory, Buckingham Athletic remain 17th in South Midlands League Division One.
