Brackley Sports trounce Yardley

A Will Grasshoff hat-trick saw Brackley Sports bounce back after last week’s Interdivisional Cup exit into the Premier Division Trophy semi-finals after a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Yardley Gobion at Springfield Way.

Grasshoff opened the scoring after only two minutes with a beautiful chip from the edge of the area and just four minutes later it was 2-0, Adam Williams’ clinical finish from close range putting the hosts firmly in control.

Yardley struck back on the half hour, an effort from the edge of the area outwitting Sports keeper Matt Georgou to bounce over his diving body and into the net.

After half time, Grasshoff was put through to make it 3-1 on 68 minutes chipping the ball over the oncoming visitor’s keeper. Grasshoff wrapped up the game two minutes from time, curling the ball in straight from a corner to make it five goals in two games for him and lining up Sports for a semi-final tie against Grendon Rangers.

Grendon continued their good run with a 1-0 victory at Silverstone in the Premier Trophy. Adam Perna scored the only goal of the game after a scrambled goal following a defensive mix-up. Also in the Trophy, Potterspury went down 2-1 at Hale Leys United , while Thornborough Athletic won a 5-4 thriller at MK Titans.
