Chris Robson’s final game in charge of Buckingham Town ended in defeat as the Robins were beaten 3-2 by Thrapston.

A wonderful Lloyd Buckby free-kick on two minutes gave Thrapston the perfect start before Buckingham recovered from a nightmare first 10 minutes to level through Tariq Kotey’s close-range finish.

Enoch Snare missed a great chance to put Buckingham ahead as the teams went into half-time locked at one apiece before the second-half began in identical fashion to the first with Buckby converting another free-kick to put Thrapston back in front.

Jack Wisniewski added a third shortly afterwards and that turned out to be the winning goal despite Kotey scoring his and Town’s second.

Buckingham finished 17th in UCL Division One.

Robson said afterwards: “It is disappointing to end with a defeat, but this summed up our season; two goals through our mistakes, and at the other end we wasn’t clinical enough.

“Against good sides, and Thrapston are no exception, you cannot expect to get positive results if you make mistakes in the wrong areas of the pitch as you will be punished.

“We created a number of chances but didn’t take them.

“Although our league position this season is nowhere near the standard I expect, I do take some pride in what I have done at Buckingham with all I have had to deal with.

“We have built a very good squad although at times they have had me tearing my hair out, overall they have been a privilege to manage.

“Off the pitch the club is in a better place than when I first took the job. We have competed in every game except one or two including giving some of the top teams with big budgets a run for their money throughout the season.

“People say I have worked miracles to have the club competing in a tough league given the resources we lack, but I’m disappointed results-wise as the table doesn’t lie, and my standards are a lot higher than third from bottom.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the club from Vince, Darren, and the other volunteers, right down to my players who overall have been great for me.

“Also a mention for the fans that have stuck by the club and always backed me and the players. Good luck to all for the future.”
