Ardley United kept their Hellenic Premier Division title hopes alive with a crucial 1-0 victory away at third-placed Ascot on Tuesday.

Ardley had lost top spot after Wantage Town won their game in hand, but this win keeps United just two points behind the leaders with three games remaining.

Although the first half was a closely-fought battle, goalmouth action was at a premium as the hosts shaded the play and forced goalkeeper Jack Harding into action on several occasions but neither side were able to find a breakthrough.

Ascot again began the brighter team in the second period, but Ardley gradually gained the upper hand and finally the decisive moment arrived when, on 74 minutes, Ryan Brooks was tipped inside the penalty area and Callum Convery stepped up to convert and hand United a potentially decisive three points in the title race.

Ardley play all three of their final games this week. First, they visit Abingdon on Saturday, and then entertain Thame United on Easter Monday before finishing their season with a trip to Bracknell Town next Wednesday.
