THREE goals in the first 15 minutes gave Ardley United their fourth win in five games against struggling Highworth Town in the Hellenic Premier Division.
The in-form Oxfordshire outfit cruised into an early 3-0 – having also missed a penalty – before going on to win 4-1 and remain fifth in a tight table.
With only three minutes on the clock, a clumsy tackle on Matt Brandish resulted in a spot kick for the visitors but Steve Howkins saw his effort pushed around the post by Ryan Griggs.
However, Highworth’s joy was short lived when Ben Thomas powerfully headed in the resulting corner to give Ardley the lead.
The hosts responded well and almost levelled but for a fine finger tip save before United doubled their advantage.
Joe Coleman fed Howkins, who ran into the box, beating two defenders, and crossed for Joe Eyre to score a second.
Ardley made it three moments later when a failed clearance found Ollie Stanbridge, who took full advantage of the gift to add a third.
Highworth kept plugging away, and when a shot from range by Johnny Aitkenhead took a deflection, it took all the skill of Joe White in the visitors goal to push it over the bar.
The three points were then made save early into the second half as Howkins scored his second after tapping in following Troy Bryan’s saved shot.
T.J. Bohane showed his class when he robbed the Ardley mid field of the ball and went on a solo run to give Highworth a consolation goal near the end.
This weekend, Ardley host Lydney Town in the second round of the Bluefin Insurance Challenge Cup.
