Buckingham Town manager Neil Griffiths is full of optimism ahead of his side’s opening UCL Division One encounter with promoted Peterborough Sports this weekend.
Griffiths, who took over as manager at Christmas last year, is confident his side can replicate the form they showed towards the end of last season that saw them finish 15th after four wins in their final six matches.
The Robins have made a number of new additions this summer in a bid to continue the momentum and make a possible push for promotion.
Griffiths said: “We are chomping at the bit for Saturday’s game against Peterborough Sports.
“We have had six weeks of hard but productive pre-season.
“We have seen many players come through the door but are now left with a settled 22-man squad that we will take into the season proper.
“We want to be challenging at the right end of the table and to make Buckingham Town Football Club the place where players want to play their football.”
Buckingham have enjoyed an impressive pre-season that has included wins over Old Bradwell, AFC Kempton Rovers, Stony Stratford, Grendon Rangers and Mursley United, and Griffiths hopes to take that form into the new season.
“We have won six of our seven pre-season games with the most noticeable against UCL Premier side AFC Kempston Rovers,” he added.
“It’s that form that has created a buzz about the place and an optimism we can carry on the form that saw us third in the form table come the end of last season.
“We don’t know too much about Peterborough Sports as they are a new side to the division. We don’t have a luxury of a scouting network at this level so all we can do is concentrate on ourselves and make sure we are ready and prepared for whatever challenge they have to pose.”
Buckingham entertain Peterborough, who won promotion from the Peterborough & District League last season, at Manor Fields tomorrow, kicking off at 3pm, before hosting ON Chenecks next weekend.
