TABLE-toppers Great Horwood FC suffered a surprising 4-3 defeat to a battling Southcott side in the North Bucks & District Premier Division.

Things went to plan early on when Frankie Tarrant headed in Joe Cooper’s cross to give Horwood the lead before Southcott responded impressively.

The visitors struck twice in the moments approaching half time to take a lead into the break.

Horwood started brightly in the second half and deservedly levelled through Andy Brunning’s header from Sam Archer’s free-kick.

Just as the home side looked to be taking control, Southcott again fought their way back and scored two goals in quick succession.

A fine finish from Tarrant gave Horwood some hope but Southcott held on for an upset.

There wasn’t any such problems for the reserves as they beat Padbury Village 5-3 in an entraining encounter to go top of Division Two.

Horwood twice fell behind in the opening half but they were on level terms at the break through Simon Ridgway’s thunderous half-volley and Dom Schembre’s calm finish.

Horwood then took control of the match and went ahead for the first time when Nick Hore shot into the top corner before Adam Armitage doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

Padbury briefly reduced the arrears to one goal but the win was sealed by Dan Lysaght after he rounded the keeper.
