Buckingham Town are hoping to bounce back to winning ways this weekend when they welcome Blackstones to Manor Fields in United Counties League Division One.

The Robins have stuttered in recent weeks, suffering a spirited defeat to leaders Daventry before a depleted Town team were beaten by Olney in the County Cup last week

Missing Blair, Mullins, Bevis, Maude and Gavrovski for this full bloodied derby, Buckingham were under early pressure from a lively Olney side.

Ryan Thrussell was outstanding in the Robins goal making four superb first half saves to keep Buckingham in the game as Town struggled to find any rhythm and it was on the stroke of half-time that Olney grabbed the only goal.

The ball was given away by Buckingham just outside their own penalty area and Rob McDonald skipped through to shoot low past Thrussell.

Buckingham were much better in the second-half and had the lion’s share of possession although Thrussell was again called into action with two more outstanding saves.

At the other end, Kotey saw his shot well saved and Fuad Ahmed also saw his effort kept out by the visiting keeper.

In the dying seconds an audacious chip from Lobjoit rebounded off the crossbar and despite considerable added time Buckingham couldn’t take the match to penalties.

Now the focus switches back to the league and a Blackstones side that have been a bit of a bogey side for Buckingham over the years.

Kick off is at 3pm at Manor Fields, all support is welcome.
