Brackley Town gave their survival hopes a huge boost when they stunned league leaders Barrow with a 1-0 victory at St James Park on Saturday.
Few gave Saints any chance going into the game given their recent poor form, but Jon Brady’s side ended a run of nine games without a win in sensational fashion as David Moyo’s goal was enough to earn three priceless points.
The game’s only goal arrived 10 minutes from time when Moyo collected the ball on the edge of the area, cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
Saints then had to survive some late Barrow pressure before celebrating a potentially season-defining victory.
The win is not enough to move Brackley out of the bottom three, but with a trip to already-relegated Hyde to come next week, they have given themselves every chance of avoiding the drop.
Saints are now 20th in the Conference North level on points with Stalybridge Celtic, one behind Colwyn Bay and three above Leamington in a nail-biting relegation dogfight.
