A second-half double from Alfie Potter put the seal on a comfortable 3-0 victory for Northampton Town in the Maunsell Cup final at Brackley Town.
Marc Richards opened the scoring with a header in the first half and former Oxford United man Potter put the game beyond Brackley after the break.
Saints had won 1-0 against the Cobblers in the Maunsell Cup showpiece four years ago, but a strong Northampton outfit never looked in danger of suffering a repeat on this occasion.
The breakthrough came on 25 minutes when Nick Adams’ lofted ball into the box found Richards, who made no mistake to put Town 1-0 up and that’s how it remained until half-time.
Saints had their own chances, most notably through Curtis McDonald’s thunderbolt that struck the bar and then Greg Kaziboni, whose fizzing half-volley flew just over.
However, the game was put to bed by Potter as he first rounded Dan Crane and slotted home before coolly finishing from the edge of the area.
Brackley played their penultimate pre-season match against MK Dons tomorrow, Thursday. They begin their season at home to Harrogate on August 8.
